Which console is best for GTA 6?
GTA 6 is on four consoles: PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Rockstar has not published resolution or frame rate targets yet, so this comparison sticks to what each machine can do and what that likely means.
PS5 Pro: the most powerful option
The PS5 Pro has a stronger GPU than any other console, upgraded ray tracing and PSSR upscaling, plus 2 TB of storage. If a console version of GTA 6 gets an enhanced mode, the Pro is where it will be. It is also the most expensive console on this list.
PS5 and Xbox Series X: the baseline
The standard PS5 and the Series X are close in power and are the machines GTA 6 was mainly developed for. Both will play GTA 6 as Rockstar intends it. Choose based on where your friends play and which store you prefer, because GTA 6 Online will most likely not have crossplay between Sony and Microsoft at launch (Rockstar has not announced any).
Xbox Series S: cheapest, with trade offs
The Series S has less graphics power and less memory, so expect a lower resolution than on the other consoles. It is the cheapest way to play GTA 6, but its small 512 GB drive is a real issue. Read our Series S guide before buying.
Digital or disc edition?
Digital only consoles cannot play discs, but they can preload GTA 6 from November 10. Disc consoles can do both. A physical copy can be resold or lent; a digital copy is tied to your account.
Our pick
Already own a PS5 or Series X? Do not upgrade just for GTA 6. Buying new? A standard PS5 or Series X is the sweet spot; get the Pro if you want the best possible picture on a high end TV. Whatever you pick, check the best TV settings for GTA 6.
