How to preload GTA 6 on PS5

Step 1: pre-order the digital version

Open the PlayStation Store on your PS5 or in the PlayStation App, search for Grand Theft Auto VI and pre-order the Standard or Ultimate Edition. Preloading only works for digital copies bought on the PlayStation Store, not for a disc. See prices and what each edition includes.

Step 2: turn on automatic downloads

Go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and switch on Stay Connected to the Internet. Then in Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates switch on Auto Download. With both on, the PS5 starts the preload by itself while it is in rest mode.

Step 3: start it manually on November 10

If you want to be sure, open your Game Library on November 10, select GTA 6 and choose Download. You can follow progress in the Downloads section of the control center. Keep the PS5 in rest mode overnight instead of switching it off fully.

Step 4: make room first

Rockstar has not published the final download size yet, but expect a very large game. Free up space before November 10 so the preload does not stop halfway. Our storage guide explains how much room a PS5 really has and which M.2 SSDs work.

How to check it worked

When the preload is complete, GTA 6 appears in your library with a lock icon or a countdown until release. That means everything is on the console and it will unlock automatically on November 19. A day one patch may still download at launch, so leave Auto Download on.
